“I want everyone to know that people with Down syndrome are capable of living in the world and reaching their goals. I want their voices to be heard and to make the world a better place for them.”

Julia has worked extensively in the community to advocate for the rights of people with disability and is engaged regularly as a speaker across arts, health and other sectors.

After being accepted into the Australia Council for the Arts SYNC LEADERSHIP PROGRAM in 2015, Julia discovered her purpose as a leader and advocate for people with disability.

Dedicated to ensuring others with Down syndrome have access to the same opportunities she’s received, Julia has delivered extensive talks internationally and nationally. Such examples include speaking roles at MEETING PLACE, EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL SUMMIT, PERTH FESTIVAL, SPECIAL OLYMPICS WA, NDIS, CURTIN UNIVERSITY AND DRAMA WEST.

Julia also represented WA on the NATIONAL ARTS AND DISABILITY STRATEGY (NADS) ROUND TABLE with the Department for Communication and the Arts and was recognised for her role as a leader by WA BUSINESS NEWS as a 2019 40 UNDER 40 recipient.

Julia is a cofounder of MY STUDIO COLLECTIVE, an arts service for independent creatives with disability. Through her weekly work with SENSORIUM THEATRE, Julia works closely with babies and children with Down Syndrome to improve their literacy. It is important to her that parents of children with disability see her in a leadership role.

Her involvement extends deeply into the WA Down syndrome community, volunteering to work with babies and toddlers with Down Syndrome and regularly speaking at DOWN SYNDROME WA events.
